The useful application of psychology towards civil and criminal justice systems is termed as forensic psychology. In simple terms, forensic psychology deals with the understanding of the human behavior and mind and seeks to find clues which makes an individual work against the law. An individual who has been educated as a forensic psychologist has many options on his hands when he wishes to start working on his career.

Apart from getting into research into this field he can also make himself useful by working in rehabilitation centres and treat mentally ill offenders, they could help in sync with attorneys or start practicing in the civil arena. A masters in forensic psychology will ensure most of these openings for individuals studying in this field. But if you wish to progress towards practicing on your own then a masters in forensic psychology will need to be followed by a PhD. A masters in forensic psychology can be studied from any of the universities present. Though it would be helpful that prior to enrolling yourself in a program for masters in forensic psychology you have some understanding of the field but it is not a compulsion.

Any course in psychology when teamed with specific criminal justice courses should be good enough. A masters in forensic psychology will help the individual get mastery on the concepts of this field and make him confident ahead. It is surely the right approach to move ahead in this field.
